Markus M. Van Loan is co-founder and principal of Steelwind Consulting Group, Inc. Steelwind Consulting Group is a boutique IT and technology consultancy catering to all the technology needs of their diverse clientele. Clients hail from industries including foundations, real estate management, restaurateurs, religious organizations, movie production, drug treatment, music production, and high net worth individuals.
In 2008, Markus co-founded Hip3 Marketing, LLC, as an independent, Internet marketing consultancy serving clients in the U.S. and overseas. With a sophisticated menu of services, Markus helps firms grow and thrive in the competitive and constantly changing landscape of Web micro-economies and with online marketing strategies.
A geek practically all his life, prior to launching Steelwind Consulting Group, Markus was Senior Engineer at Sandbox Technologies Inc. Before joining Sandbox Technologies, Inc., Markus was Executive Vice President and Technical Producer at Digital Savant, Inc. where he managed the development of the online software as a service (SaaS) application platform Media Taxi©. Media Taxi© is a web based platform that allows entertainment studio clients to manage digital rights and access to audio, video, graphical and other digital content for publicity, marketing and territory markets. Markus is a serial entrepreneur working on now his fourth business. Markus started creating websites in 1992 where he built some of the first web pages in UCLA's Electrical Engineering Department. Markus started his first Internet Marketing business in 1998 selling Internet advertising in the online iMall.com and the Internet Yellow Pages to Los Angeles area brick & mortar establishments.
His career in higher technology and supporting research efforts spans over 22 years. He has worked in the advanced technology areas fabricating laser and photo diodes for DoD communications systems at Ortel Corporation, now a division of Emcore Corporation (http://www.emcore.com). Markus pursued his interests in scientific research and worked on satellite based scientific research through supporting scientists at the prestigious Aerospace Corporation (http://www.aero.org). Markus continued working in the applied sciences engineering field and performed semiconductor clean-room laboratory training, instruction and management roles over 10 years at the celebrated UCLA School of Engineering and Applied Sciences' Nanoelectronics Research Facility and Undergraduate Microfabrication Laboratory (http://Nanolab.UCLA.edu). To sum it up, he is familiar with Hi-Tech to i-Tech and he brings this history and breadth of experience to his clients, relationships and their projects & challenges.
Markus is also an accomplished inventor. In 2000, Markus co-founded SexyMouse International, Inc. where he co-developed and invented a novel computer mouse with a design so notable for its novelty; he was awarded a US Design Patent for the effort.
Markus lives in South Pasadena with his wife and three children. During his downtime, Markus enjoys spending time with family, prospecting domain names and apprentices with the internationally renowned Metal Artist: Jason H. Mernick. You can read more about my work with Jason on my Art Page.
