Network Security starts with having a goal and creating a plan.  We work with your goals to find the balance of security measures and simplicity.

Protecting your networks includes using solid technology that is proven and reliable for business applications.  But it doesn't stop there... to enjoy Network Security you should consider adding some or all of the following measures:

  • Use solid, respected technology - we recommend business class HP or Dell equipment
  • Harden the server - this aspect involves turning off unused services such as email, ftp, or web services if they are not being used.
  • Strong passwords - you can find some sample example passwords on our Resources page.  Where stronger security is desired, we can set your network equipment to change passwords periodically.  Further on this point is implementing passwords accross your network - on the server and on all computers and user accounts.
  • Use a stateful firewall - we recommend Sonicwall or SnapGear firewalls for their value and versatility to Small and medium sized businesses.  A "stateful" firewall is stronger than a "NAT" type firewall in that this class of firewalls have intelligence and constantly review the data traffic from the internet and help to block bad traffic from penetrating your office.
  • Backup and desaster recovery - what happens if your office experiences water damage or a fire on the weekend?  Are you and your data protected?
  • Implement Anti-Virus, Spam, and Malware protection across your network.
  • Telecommuting users of your network - In the past we used products like PC Anywhere or ProcommPlus to allow users to remotely connect to the office when they are on travel or at home.  Today we have new tools that utilize "SSL security" which is the same encryption techniques used when you do your banking online.  The strength of this approach is that your data stays in your office as users remote control their office computers securely and privately.
  • Reviewing log files and testing the security of the network
